Projects

A selection of projects, presentations, and talks from the last few years. Both project work and presenting are things I really enjoy, and I always put serious effort into it. The page walks backwards: my current work and MSc at ETH, the EPFL exchange semester, my BSc at the University of Salzburg, all the way back to my HTL (technical high school) diploma thesis.

2025

Research Project: AID(L)ing the Fuzzer
Semester thesis at EPFL: a new backend for the upstream AIDL compiler that auto-generates structure-aware libFuzzer harnesses for Android Binder services, lifting transaction success rates from 20-60 % to 85-99 %.
Boost-Hut: Microarchitecturally Optimized N-Body Simulation
·222 words·2 mins
Fastcode (Advanced Systems Lab) project at ETH: a single-threaded Barnes-Hut N-body simulation tuned to the metal with a flat octree, Hilbert sorting, hand-unrolled traversal and AVX-512 / NEON kernels - 32× over the textbook baseline.
Industrial Automation: ChocoMation Automation
·163 words·1 min
Industrial Automation course at EPFL: full design of an automated chocolate powder plant - field instrumentation, PLC architecture, SCADA selection and a qualitative dependability analysis.
OSS-Fuzz: Improving binutils harnesses
·234 words·2 mins
Software Security lab at EPFL: improving the OSS-Fuzz harnesses for binutils’ strings and objcopy utilities, finding a real (low-severity) DoS along the way, and upstreaming the strings fix to OSS-Fuzz.
Guest Lecture: 10 Ways to Tear Your App Apart
·179 words·1 min
Guest lecture at FH Salzburg on mobile app reverse engineering: ten ways to take apart an iOS or Android app, demoed live against a deliberately broken Coffee Demo app I built for the occasion.

2024

Bachelor Thesis: VitalVision
·279 words·2 mins
Bachelor thesis at ETH SIPLAB: a mobile platform for real-time signal-quality validation of wearable ECG and PPG data during long, in-the-wild physiological studies.
ETH Quantum Hackathon: Q-Cut Logistics
ETH Quantum Hackathon project: solving the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem via a two-phase decomposition that funnels each sub-TSP through QUBO and MaxCut for a quantum solver.
Coursework: The Wonderfully Insecure World of IoT
·183 words·1 min
Course paper and very practical presentation on IoT security: Google Dorking for exposed cameras, Sub-GHz attacks with the Flipper Zero, and a suitcase full of demo gadgets.

2023

OpenGLHF: An Entity-Overlay Minecraft Hack
·169 words·1 min
Computer Graphics course project at the University of Salzburg: a Minecraft Fabric hack that hooks into the entity rendering pipeline to draw bounding boxes, tracers and entity info.
Coursework: Smart Cards
·146 words·1 min
Seminar talk at the University of Salzburg covering smart card history, the ISO 7816 / 14443 protocol layers, and a live demo cloning a UID with a Flipper Zero to bypass an access-control gate.
